VeriFone PCCharge Developers FAQ

We want to get you, the developer, flying high with your integration. Below is a list of frequently asked questions handled by our technical and development support services. Hopefully, this list will save you time and assist in the completion of your integration.
  1. Which credit card processors support TCP/IP transactions?
  2. We are currently certified to do TCP/IP (Internet) and TCP/IP (Leased Line) transactions with over a dozen credit card processing companies. Click here for a complete list of those companies.

  3. Can I use my remote desktop software to access PCCharge?
  4. We currently do not support accessing PCCharge via Windows Remote Desktop, Virtual Private Network (VPN), or any other remote interface application. Programs like these allow PCCharge to initiate multiple instances of itself, causing lost transactions, duplicate charges, and database corruption.

Instead, we recommend that you use either PCCharge Client or PCCharge DevKit (via integration) to remotely access PCCharge.

  5. How can I make my transactions faster?
  6. If you are using one of PCCharge's TCP/IP-certified processors, TCP/IP transactions will be the fastest way to process your transactions. These transactions are processed in about 2-4 seconds. If you will be using a modem to dial up the processor, the following are some steps to make sure that you have the fastest, most stable connection to the processing company:

    1. If possible, avoid using a "Win-modem".
    2. Make sure that you have the most updated drivers from the modem manufacturer for your particular model.
    3. Make sure that the selection in PCCharge Pro/PCCharge Payment Server best suites your particular modem type. If you can locate your exact modem in the list of modems we provide, use that first.
    4. The modem initialization string should tell your modem to:
      • Connect at the appropriate baud rate (often 1200 baud)
      • Turn off error correction
      • Turn off data compression.

  7. Is the Track II data required when the transaction is flagged as being a "swiped" transaction?
  8. Yes, if you set the Manual/Swipe property/field to swipe, you must also include the Track II data. The results vary for different processors, but the transaction will not be processed correctly.

  9. Does PCCharge Pro/Payment Server support Windows 2000?
  10. Yes, our products have been tested on all Windows 2000 platforms.

  11. What is CISP (Card Information Security Program)?
  12. In order for you to protect yourself, you must comply with the twelve basic CISP requirements listed below. These are the most current requirements as of the printing of this manual, but you should check Visa's website (http://www.visa.com/cisp) for the most up-to-date requirements.

    1. Install and maintain a working firewall to protect data
    2. Keep security patches up-to-date
    3. Protect stored data
    4. Encrypt data sent across public networks
    5. Use and regularly update anti-virus software
    6. Restrict access by "need to know"
    7. Assign unique ID to each person with computer access
    8. Don't use vendor-supplied defaults for passwords and security parameters
    9. Track all access to data by unique ID
    10. Regularly test security systems and processes
    11. Implement and maintain an information security policy
    12. Restrict physical access to data

In addition to these requirements, Visa also provides sub-requirements to which merchants must adhere. It is suggested that you contact Visa or visit their website (http://www.visa.com/cisp) to learn more about CISP requirements and compliance.

Note: Other card associations, such as MasterCard, Discover, and American Express, have established programs cardholder security programs as well. These programs are similar to CISP. You should become familiar with these other security programs as well.
